鿰 1️⃣ Monthly Theme
NDVS Theme for May
Notre Dame Virtual School’s theme for May invites us to Move with Care: — Walk — Roll — Ride — Slide.
Movement is a part of daily life. How we travel, how we care for our bodies, and how we care for the Earth. Choosing to move with care means noticing our impact, making thoughtful choices, and finding simple ways to live more gently and actively, each day.
Every Step Matters
Movement is one of the simplest gifts we can give ourselves, one another, and the Earth. Every step matters. Walking, biking, stretching, gardening, dancing, rolling, playing outside, and choosing active transportation help build healthier lives and healthier communities. Movement improves physical health, emotional well-being, learning, concentration, and connection with others. It also helps reduce pollution, traffic congestion, and energy use.
In a world increasingly shaped by screens, automation, and artificial intelligence, human movement reminds us that we are living beings created for relationship, balance, creativity, and care. This month, try asking:
- Can I walk part of the way?
- Can I bike safely?
- Can I stretch instead of scroll?
- Can I spend time outdoors?
- Can I move with gratitude today?
Even small choices matter. Every step matters.
鿰 2️⃣ Leo’s Corner
Leo’s Corner — Hope That Moves Us
- Dreams + Visions = HopeWhen young people dream and elders share wisdom, hope becomes real and alive in our world.
- Strength = Love, not Power
True strength is not found in weapons or control, but in love that builds peace. - A question to carry:
What kind of strength do I choose each day?
Pope Leo XIV continues to encourage young people, families, and communities to choose hope over fear and human dignity over systems built only on power or efficiency. He reminds the world that real strength is not found in domination, violence, or endless competition.
True strength is found in compassion, wisdom, peacebuilding, and care for one another.
Pope Leo has also spoken about the danger of treating war like a game or relying on weapons as the foundation of security. Peace grows when people build trust, dialogue, understanding, and solidarity.
Hope moves us toward life. Movement can become part of that hope:
- walking together
- helping neighbors
- caring for creation
- building healthy habits
- reconnecting with the real world around us
When we move with purpose and care, we become pilgrims of hope for others.
鿰 3️⃣ Students’ Corner
Student Corner — One Action
- How do you move each day – walk, ride, scroll, sit?
- What is one small change you can make this week?
- How does caring for your body help you care for the earth?
Stretch Instead of Scroll
Technology can help us learn, create, communicate, and solve problems. But too much screen time can also leave us tired, distracted, anxious, or disconnected from real life. Healthy movement helps balance our minds and bodies.
Try one of these simple challenges this month:
- Walk for 10 minutes without your phone
- Take a stretch break between assignments
- Ride a bike or scooter safely
- Help with gardening or yard work
- Dance to your favorite music
- Invite a friend outside
- Try a screen-free hour before bed
Did You Know? Regular movement helps:
- * improve concentration
- * reduce stress
- * improve sleep
- * strengthen the heart and lungs
- * increase energy and mood
Movement is not only exercise. Movement is life.
