Ecological Education and Earth Day 2025

Apr 1, 2025 | News & Events

NDVS Theme for April 2025 continues last month’s theme by focusing on Ecological Education and Earth Day.

1. Climate and Environmental Literacy

Tuesday, April 22, 2025
55th Anniversary of Earth Day

Students can help combat climate change by: reducing waste through recycling, using less energy at home by turning off lights when not in use, walking or biking instead of driving when possible, eating less meat, planting trees, educating others about climate change, and talking to their parents about making eco-friendly choices at home and in the community.

Specific actions include:

  • Reduce, reuse, recycle: Sort trash carefully and recycle paper, plastic, cans, and glass.
  • Conserve water: Turn off the tap when brushing teeth, take shorter showers, and use a watering can for plants.
  • Save energy: Turn off lights and electronics when leaving a room, unplug appliances when not in use, and use energy-efficient light bulbs.
Walk, bike, or take public transport: Opt for walking or biking to school or short distances instead of driving.
  • Eat sustainably: Choose plant-based options and reduce food waste.
  • Plant trees: Help plant trees in your community to absorb carbon dioxide.
  • Start a garden: Grow your own vegetables at home.
  • Educate others: Share what you learn about climate change with friends and family.
  • Talk to your parents: Ask your parents to make eco-friendly choices like buying reusable bags, switching to renewable energy, and reducing their carbon footprint.
  • Join a climate club at school: Participate in school initiatives focused on environmental protection.

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur value Communication of all its forms! We bond with one another through verbal and non-verbal communications, for building and strengthening our relationships internationally and cross-culturally, and for collaborating with our Associates, Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, Co-workers, and Partners in Mission. We network for the Mission of the Gospel, the Church and our Religious Congregation in making known God’s goodness in our time, and in all the places where we serve. We commit ourselves to stand with those made poor by the unjust structures of the society.
