Adopting a Simplier Lifestyle

Mar 14, 2025 | News & Events

NDVS Theme for March 2025 is Adopting a simpler lifestyle is about focusing on what truly matters and eliminating unnecessary clutter—both physical and mental. Here are some steps to help you transition:

1. Clarify Your Priorities

• Identify what’s most important to you (family, health, creativity, nature, etc.).
• Let these values guide your choices.

2. Declutter Your Space

• Start small—one room, one drawer at a time.
• Keep only what is useful or brings you joy.
• Consider a minimalist approach to clothing, furniture, and belongings.

3. Simplify Your Schedule

• Reduce commitments that don’t align with your values.
• Learn to say no to activities that drain your energy.
• Prioritize downtime and meaningful experiences over busyness.

4. Consume Less, Live More

• Buy quality over quantity.
• Be mindful of consumerism—ask yourself if you truly need something before buying.
• Focus on experiences rather than possessions.

5. Reduce Digital Noise

• Unsubscribe from emails and social media that don’t add value.
• Set boundaries on screen time.
• Embrace quiet moments without distractions.

6. Embrace Slow Living

• Take your time with meals, conversations, and hobbies.
• Spend more time in nature.
• Practice mindfulness, meditation, or journaling.

7. Focus on Financial Simplicity

• Reduce unnecessary expenses.
• Avoid debt when possible.
• Save and invest wisely for peace of mind.

8. Nurture Relationships

• Prioritize deep, meaningful connections over social obligations.
• Spend quality time with loved ones.
• Be present in conversations.

9. Adopt a Simple Diet

• Eat whole, unprocessed foods.
• Cook at home more often.
• Appreciate the simple pleasure of a well-prepared meal.

10. Appreciate What You Have

• Practice gratitude daily.
• Find joy in the small things—sunrises, birdsong, a good book.
• Let go of comparison and embrace contentment.

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur value Communication of all its forms! We bond with one another through verbal and non-verbal communications, for building and strengthening our relationships internationally and cross-culturally, and for collaborating with our Associates, Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, Co-workers, and Partners in Mission. We network for the Mission of the Gospel, the Church and our Religious Congregation in making known God’s goodness in our time, and in all the places where we serve. We commit ourselves to stand with those made poor by the unjust structures of the society.
